Alex Hillman from Independents Hall talking about Co-Working

I met Alex at a meetup he organized in Center City Philadelphia to expound on his local coworking initiative dubbed “Independents Hall“.

I knew that Alex’s infectious enthusiasm and clarity of vision would make him an excellent podcast guest, and I would say that the interview went famously.

Coworking is a concept similar to an artists’ community, but anchored more firmly to technology and commerce. At its core it serves to provide a high quality workspace with business amenities and connectivity to independent contractors by renting slices of a larger space.

But renting deskspace is just the skeletal support, the meat is working with other independent professional in well, meatspace, where collaboration on projects is encouraged, and tie-ins to similar community minded companies such as the Philly Car Share.

Well you can listen to Alex tell you more in this episode of PhilyTIP.

Our First Show

In this our first show, Bart and I launched the podcast even before we had a title for the show. I recorded the show in my studio using Sony Acid, with Bart dialed in using Gizmo Project VOIP chat.

We worked together on other podcasting projects, so it felt comfortable right away. We also had done one practice run a few weeks prior, just to test out the connection and quality.

Just to get the ball rolling, we decided to profile Bart’s company Bartek Management and I proceeded to interview Bart.

It was a good interview, and overall it was a good session. I hope you agree.
